The first week of my New Testament class we discussed the Plan of Salvation and how it is much more convoluted and encompassing than the simple and classic diagram of circles and lines which you might see in primary. We discussed how Heavenly Father's plan is for us not only to return to Him and live in His presence, but also to become like Him and His Son, Jesus Christ. So, it is not only about location but also about a state of being and change that we must undergo in this life that causes us to emulate and reflect Christ and His characteristics. One scripture that made me think of this state is Moroni 8:26 in The Book of Mormon, "And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God."
I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to chose humility instead of anger or fear or worry when hard things come my way. I'm grateful that my savior, Jesus Christ, has suffered so that I may have this choice and this chance to let my hardships mold me into a kinder and more empathetic and compassionate human being.
